How I Style Neons

Monday, July 7, 2014

Neons have been a favorite of mine for years. My obsession with neons began in high school, when we had "neon day" to celebrate Homecoming, and when I needed more colors in my life to wear with my uniform.

Neons seem to have been sticking around for many summer seasons, and I can't complain. It's a delight to see so many bright colors on the street after the cooler months.

Neons are bright and happy, but I can see where they can be intimidating. That's where this post comes in. :) I want to share the way I wear neons with y'all, and I hope it inspires you to try out some brights this season if you haven't already.

Neon Nail Polish

This is by far the easiest and most subtle way to get into neon shades. You can go as neutral as you like with your whole outfit, but neon nails will make any outfit you wear that much cooler and a little bit edgy, depending on what color you choose.

Plus, there are so many different colors to choose from in so many brands, so it's easy to find the perfect neon shade for you.

Choose Your Favorite Neon

The fun thing about neons is that you're not limited to highlighter shades. Neon yellow is my personal favorite, but you can have just as much fun with neon cobalt or neon lavender. It all depends on your personal taste.

Once you have a neon shade you love, pair it with neutrals and other colors that compliment it.

Neons: Casual Outfit

In this outfit, I found a fabulous cardigan with neon pink/coral in it (from one of my favorite stores: Altar'd State!) and put some coordinating pieces with it. This would be a great casual outfit that could work with any climate, and if you want to take the cardigan off, you still have your neon accessories to pull things together, so have fun with accessories in matching colors!

Feeling Adventurous? Pair 2 or 3 at a time!

Neons: Two Brights at a Time

I love the idea of wearing lots of bright things. The secret to this is picking colors that work well together, like bright oranges and yellows. This citrus combo makes me SO happy!

To bring this look down to earth, I threw in a neutral bag. However, if you want to wear a bright bag, that's totally cool. It's whatever floats your brightly colored boat. :)

Do you like neon shades? What's your favorite way to wear them?
