March + April Book Wrap-Up

Friday, May 1, 2015

Hey, y'all! Let's talk books...specifically, the books I read in March and April. I was kinda busy with work these months, so I only got around to reading three books. However, these three books were pretty good ones.

Let's jump right in, shall we?

Failure by Jack Wilkie

Now, I hear you asking, Savannah, you read nonfiction? Yes, on occasion, I do. I read this one in particular because 1) the topic is interesting to me since I was homeschooled, and 2) I know the author. :)

Basically, it's about the state of American education today from a Christian perspective, and it explores the solutions Christians can pursue if they want an alternative to the public school system. If any of y'all are interested in this book, check it out here.

Alienated by Melissa Landers

In a total shift of gears, I picked up this little paranormal romance/fantasy about a girl who hosts an alien exchange student. I'm happy to report that this book wasn't quite as cliche as Twilight, nor quite as overdone as the paranormal romance genre generally is. While it definitely reads for high-school-age kids (probably on the older side with the way the romance went), I did really enjoy the humor in this one. I also appreciated how the protagonist was a really witty blogger, and that her parents were both present and had a great relationship with their daughter.

While there were moments that were a smidge cheesy - and the romance felt a little rushed - it was fun, quick little read.

Off to Be the Wizard by Scott Meyer

Oh. my. goodness. y'all.

This book was an absolute joy from start to finish. It was a delight that reminded me of Ready Player One, The Princess Bride, and a hint of Monty Python. Long story short, I LOVED it.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars, full review here.

What books did y'all read this month? Let me know in the comments! :)
